Rudy to be BJP State In-charge

CHENNAI: Senior BJP leader and Lok Sabha MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy has been appointed the new prabhari (party in-charge) of Tamil Nadu.

He replaces BJP general secretary and Telangana leader P Muralidhar Rao, who is the new prabhari of Karnataka. Rao oversaw the formation of a six-party alliance in Tamil Nadu for the Lok Sabha elections.

Rudy, who is BJP general secretary, was appointed party in-charge of Maharashtra in May last in the run up to the Lok Sabha elections. He steered the BJP to victory in both the parliamentary and the recently concluded Assembly elections, in which the BJP emerged the single largest party.  

BJP national secretary H Raja has been appointed as in-charge of Kerala and Lakshadweep, sources said.

Meanwhile, the State general council meeting of the BJP will be held here on October 26. The meeting is expected to endorse the election of Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan as the State unit president, besides discuss the party’s future course of action. The new party chief is expected to announce her team in a week or two.
