Gang Hacks Dalit to Death in Madurai

MADURAI: Owing to a dispute, a 30-year-old Dalit, running a hollow blocks manufacturing unit in Sakkimangalam was brutally murdered by a gang on Thursday morning.

Police said that the murder was executed by labourers working at the construction site of a house located opposite to his unit.

The victim Kathiresakumar was supplying material for building the house. Kathiresakumar intervened in a quarrel that broke out between his brother and the labourers at the construction site on Wednesday evening and thereby earned the wrath of the labourers.

To settle scores with him, the group entered the manufacturing unit around 8 am when Kathiresakumar was alone and threw chilli powder on his face before hacking him to death with sickles and knives. Kathiresakumar, who suffered cut injuries at 21 places in his body, died on the spot and was noticed by some men, who later came to the unit, police added.

On information, Silaiman police rushed to the spot and sent the body for post mortem to the Government Rajaji Hospital. After the autopsy, the body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives. He is survived by wife and a five-month-old son.

Special teams have been formed to arrest the absconding culprits, Vijayendra Bidari, SP, said.
