PUDUCHERRY: Even as the fast entered the 5th day, three students of Pondicherry University were shifted to the Government General Hospital after they fainted on Monday.

The hunger strike began on August 6, and is undertaken as relay protest. The students, including a girl, had replaced an earlier batch of fifteen who fell ill due to complications of fasting. The students had announced the protest demanding protection for girl students in the campus, more hostels and basic amenities. Though senior university authorities assured the students that they will address their grievances, no formal discussion is yet to be initiated with them to solve the issue. Authorities, however, claim that they had called a meeting, but the students did not turn up.Meanwhile, the PUSM has reiterated that they would continue with the agitation till the Union government intervenes and settles their demands.
