Let Pongal Bring in Joy for all, Says Jaya

CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday greeted Tamils, on the occasion of Pongal festival.  “Let this harvest festival bring health, wealth, peace and happiness to the lives of people of Tamil Nadu”, she said in a statement here.

Recalling Saint Poet Tiruvalluvar’s glorification of the farming community, the AIADMK supremo said on this happy day, farmers express their gratitude to the Almighty, as well as the livestock.

Leaders of other political parties of the state also greeted people. They included DMK chief M Karunanidhi, PMK founder S Ramadoss, DMDK leader Vijayakant, MDMK leader Vaiko, TNCC president EVKS Elangovan, TMC leader GK Vasan and CPM State general secretary G Ramakrishnan.

Rs 8 Cr Gift for Transport Staff

Chennai:  The government on Wednesday announced performance incentive amounting to Rs 7.70 crore to 1,37,800 employees working with State-owned transport corporations on the occasion of Pongal festival. Those who worked for 91 days to 150 days in 2014 would get an incentive of Rs 85 and those who worked for 151 days to 200 days will be given Rs 195.  Similarly, those who worked for more than 200 days would get incentive of Rs 625. The government announced performance incentive to 37,693 employees of in C and D divisions of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation.
