The salient features of the Tamil Annai statue proposed to be installed in Madurai
■ 247 ft tall marking the 247 letters of the Tamil alphabet
■ 18 ft wide marking the 18 consonants (Mei Ezhuthukal)
■ Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announced in May 2013 that a Tamil Annai statue will be installed at a cost of Rs 100 crore
■ It will be the second statue of Tamil Annai in the state. MGR unveiled the earlier one during the fifth World Tamil Conference in 1981
■ At present, the tallest statue in the State is of Tiruvalluvar in Kanyakumari that is 133 feet
