Child Prostitution Case: Photographs Six Absconding Policemen Released

Pradeep Kumar

PUDUCHERRY:  Superintendent of Police (CB-CID), S Venkatasamy on Tuesday released the photographs of the six absconding police personnel, who are “wanted” in connection with the child prostitution racket case.

Venkatasamy said the release of pictures will help the public provide information about the policemen. He said that those who come forward to give information will be suitably rewarded and their details will be kept secret.

It may be because fear that so far nobody has come forward to give information about these absconding policemen, he added.

Informing that the six accused are now “wanted” as they failed to appear before the investigation officer, the SP said he was confident of nabbing them at the earliest.

Asked whether a deadline was set, he said  that the nabbing of these policemen may take place, may be in a couple of days or at the earliest as all necessary steps were being taken.

The absconding charge sheet could be given to the policemen, but we don’t want to create an impression that police was trying to help them, he said.

“If the policemen wanted to prove their innocence, as claimed by them, then they should appear before the court and prove it, instead of hiding,” he said.

Asked about the involvement of politicians in the child prostitution racket, he said there was no concrete evidence to prove it.

Giving details about the case, he said eight persons, four pimps and five customers were arrested and the nine policemen were identified by the child victims during an identification parade, held as per directions of the Madras High Court.

The CBCID received the parade’s report from the court on December 23.

However, the alleged policemen, inspectors V Yuvaraj and T Sundar, sub-inspectors V Balakrishnan and A Anusu Basha, head constables B Kumaravel and G Pandarinathan and constables M Selvakumar and G Sankar and V Rajaram, a retired sub inspector were absconding ever since.

All the eight cops were dismissed from service by the IGP on February 18. The Madras High Court refused to grant anticipatory bail for the persons on February 23.

It may be recalled that Sub-inspectors V Balakrishnan, constables M Selvakumar and G Sankar surrendered before the CB-CID on February 28.
