Ram M Sundaram

COIMBATORE: Admission to all courses in private paramedical institutions are to be brought under the single window counselling system from the forthcoming academic year (2015-16).

From 2012-13, the selection committee under the Director of Medical Education (DME) had conducted counselling to admit students in the paramedical stream, including diploma and certificate courses.

In 2013, the State Government had permitted 22 private institutions to start paramedical diploma courses.

Admissions to diploma courses is made by private paramedical institutions in the month of July every year, but the approval of prospectus for admission to paramedical courses in government medical colleges is given only after this.

Admissions for these courses were made in their respective private institutions and the names of the selected candidates registered only during the conduction of examination by the Board of Paramedical Education, King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research in Guindy, Chennai.

Since the private paramedical institutions had failed to follow the changes incorporated in the admission procedure introduced in 2013, certain regulations have been introduced to bring in more uniformity in the admission procedure.

Accordingly, admission for all courses including those conducted by private paramedical institutions will be made through counselling under the single window system under the control of Director of Medical Education i.e., being unified under one roof will be more effective and facilitate smooth functioning of the department.

An application fee of `200 will be collected from the candidates applied for paramedical courses from this year by the selection committee under the Director of Medical Education and the same will also take care of the expenditure required towards the selection process.

The Board of Medical Education will take care of registration procedures, training schedules, syllabus requisites, examination formats, conducting examinations, publication of results and issue of relevant certificates for all the courses conducted by private institutions.

The distribution of seats between the government institutions and the private institutions will be in the ratio 65:35 and 50:50 in non-minority and minority institutions respectively.
