The formal sanction for the project had been received from the government and once completed, the annual passenger handling capacity at the airport would go up to 12 lakh, Airport Director B C H Negi told reporters here today. Earlier, he inaugurated additional seating facility for 150 passengers at the departure terminal and better facilities in the security check area.

The additional seats had been provided to ease congestion during the peak hours. Negi said a new canteen would be commissioned at the airport by the end of this month. The glass roofing of the airport would be replaced with strong material to withstand strong wind, he added.
