Class IX Girl Killed as Bus Rams Bike

COIMBATORE: A class IX student was killed when the two-wheeler they were riding on was hit by a speeding government bus on Wednesday.

The accident occurred at Mahalingapuram near Pollachi.

The victim T Ranjitha (14) a resident of Tirupur was spending her summer holidays with her relatives in Coimbatore. She was studying class IX in a private matriculation school in Tirupur.

On Wednesday, Ranjitha and two of her relatives, Maheshwari (17) and Swathi (8) were on their way to Pollalchi to buy something, when a government bus heading to Pollachi from Kinathukadavu knocked their two-wheeler down.

Ranjitha who was riding pillion was severely injured and was taken to a nearby private hospital. She was then shifted to another private hospital in Sidhapudur for further treatment, but she died due to excessive bleeding.

The driver of the bus was identified as Palanisamy (50). Mahalingapuram police have registered a case and are conducting further investigations.
