MADURAI: With Diwali just a few days away, Usilampatti, Uthapuram and T Krishnapuram residents have urged the TNSTC to resume bus services that were stopped on October 22 after communal clashes in Ezhumalai near Usilampatti in Madurai district.

For overall security, police suspended the TNSTC bus services after 6.30pm to Ezhumalai, Uthapuram, and T Krishnapuram. As many as 12 TNSTC services passing through Usilampatti, Uthapuram, Ezhumalai, Mallapuram and T Krishnapuram were cancelled.

Residents said the suspension of bus services caused all hardship. It took two to three hours for villagers to reach Uthapuram, Ezhumalai and T Krishnapuram.

A senior TNSTC official told Express that they were ready to resume the bus services if police permitted.

Vijayendra Bidari, SP, said, the suspension of buses was dynamic, and depending on local conditions the police would review the decision.

“For Diwali we have permitted TNSTC to run bus services till 9 pm. If situation demands, we will cancel the bus services,” added Bidari.
