COIMBATORE:Two men, supposedly involved in the sensational murder of three persons near Irugur, about 10 days ago, surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate VII, T V Hemant Kumar, on Friday.
Police sources informed that the duo, ‘Pasumpon’ Kumar (31) and Periyavan alias Murugan (32), from Kumbakonam, surrendered before the judge on Friday.
Murugan was reportedly a close friend and an aide of the slain lawyer, M K Raja, who was murdered near Thanjavur a couple of months ago.
With the surrender of Murugan and Kumar, the total number of accused remanded in judicial custody in connection with the case stands at 15.
Some of the other 13 accused in the case had informed the police of the complicity of the duo in the murders, leading the police to begin a search for the men.
The two were remanded at Salem Central Prison.
Coimbatore district police are continuing their efforts to bring a few of the other suspects into custody for questioning in connection with the murder.
Police are still looking for concrete evidence to ascertain the role of Mohan Ram, a history-sheeter, in the murders.
Police sources said that so far, none of the accused has pinpointed his role in the conspiracy. However, Mohan Ram is one of the accused in the case, they confirmed.
Special teams have been formed to nab the remaining accused in the case, police sources added.
