In a daring robbery on a moving train, unidentified persons mounted a guarded coach carrying a consignment of currency notes worth Rs 342 crore and made off with Rs 5.78 crore in the dead of the intervening night of August 8-9.

The train was carrying soiled currency notes belonging to a few public sector banks which were to be submitted to the Reserve Bank of India, when the heist was carried out.

On a rail route that is mostly electrified, the robbery was no doubt executed with precision planning after much research, as the perpetrators entered the coach from above it, police personnel investigating the unprecedented case said.
