Murder Charge Against 12 TN Cops for Fake Encounter

Express News Service

TIRUNELVELI: The District Principal Sessions Court here has directed the CB-CID to file murder cases against 12 policemen for killing a history-sheeter in a fake encounter in June last year.

In his order, judge Naseer Ahamed said that prima facie it appeared that the policemen had staged a fake encounter and misused their powers, which amounted to murder.

He then directed the CB-CID to file murder cases against 12 policemen, which included DSP Rajaram, Assistant Commissioner Madhavan Nair, SI Sivaramakrishnan, constables Singam alias Selvanathan, Murugesan, Karuppasamy, Alwin Babu, Thangam, Shanmugavel, Krishnasamy, Saravana Sundar and Murugan.  Police said they had not yet received the order copy and that a decision on framing charges against the 12 would be taken after consulting senior officials.

Bramma, an RTI activist, said he was the first to file a complaint with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) alleging that it was a fake encounter. The NHRC was carrying out a parallel investigation, he noted.

Kittappa was killed on June 13, 2015, following which his men went on the rampage. His wife, Esakkiammal, had filed a case at the Cheranmahadevi Court and Judge Maya Krishnan had conducted an investigation.
