Express News Service

NAGERCOIL:  Actor-turned-politician R Sarath Kumar on Sunday announced that the alliance of the All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi (AISMK), for which he is the founder-president, with the AIADMK has come to an end.

Addressing cadre at his party’s booth committee meeting here, the sitting Tenkasi MLA, who could win the elections only due to his truck with the AIADMK, said his work as a member of legislative assembly has ended on Saturday.

“From now on, AISMK is not in the AIADMK alliance,” he declared.

His party, he said, did not stray from the alliance dharma so long and he has campaigned for the AIADMK nine times including for  the Assembly, Lok Sabha and local body polls.

Taking exception to Vijayakant’s comments on he becoming a kingmaker at the DMDK’s Kancheepuram conference on Saturday, he said, “Perunthalaivar Kamarajar remains the only kingmaker and Vijayakant cannot become one,” he quipped.

On speculations that he would contest from Nagercoil or Srivaikundam, he claimed constituency was not a problem and he would win anywhere.

Saying that AISMK, which is entering into its ninth year, was ready to contest in all the 234 constituencies as “success or defeat is not a problem to me”, he added, “I will take a good decision on alliance as the party’s general body has authorised me to take a call.”
