TNPCB's Awareness Drive for Bhogi

Express News Service

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control board has been conducting a series of awareness campaigns through popular radio stations across Tamil Nadu to sensitise the general public toward the dangers of unrestrained celebrations during Bhogi. According to the Board, until about two decades ago, old things being burnt during the celebrations were mostly of natural origins. However, with the current increase in the quantum of plastics and synthetics, Bhogi celebrations had led to a rise in pollution and smog — affecting visibility for both road and air traffic and health issues. It was to curb this that the TNPCB has been conducting awareness programs to prevent people from burning such harmful things.

This year too, the TNPCB is carrying out a series of programmess titled ‘A Smokeless Bhogi’ through radio stations from January 11 — Radio City in Chennai, Radio Mirchi in Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore and Hello FM in Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore.
