Day after NLC ballot, PMK dissolves its Cuddalore district unit

Express News Service

CHENNAI: In a quiet move that came a day after the results of the NLC secret ballot for trade union recognition were out, the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) dissolved the Cuddalore district unit and all its subordinate units down to the panchayat union level on Sunday.

The new office-bearers will be elected in the coming days, added a statement from party president G K Mani dated June 19.

The statement said the party bodies from the district committee to the panchayat union level have been dissolved – the postings for the present office-bearers will be announced later. A three-member committee will visit each union to select the new team, the statement added, indicating that the youth will be given preference.

Though no clear reason was mentioned for the drastic move at a district that is important for the party, it is pertinent to note that it came after the NLC election in which the party failed to become one of the recognised unions. The CITU and LPF got recognition, while PMK’s Pattali Thozhil Sangam came fourth after the AIADMK-affiliated union.
