300 DMDK Cadre Switch Allegiance to AIADMK
Villupuram: With only two months to go before the polls, 300 Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) cadre from Koliyanur joined the AIADMK in the presence of Villupuram RS MP R Lakshmanan at a function here on Sunday. The defection was allegedly engineered by the former DMDK secretary of Koliyanur unit.
Cops Hunt for Hit-and-Run Vehicle that Killed Woman
Villupuram: Police have begun a hunt for a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run incident in which a woman was killed near Thiruvennainallur here on Saturday night. Andal (60) of Perangiyur, wife of Mannangatti, tried to cross the Tiruchy-Chennai highway when she was run over by the vehicle that didn’t stop. There were no eye-witnesses.
61-year-old Brain Dead Man’s Organs Donated
Chennai: The organs of a 61-year-old brain-dead man have been harvested and donated to various hospitals. According to Senthil, transplant coordinator at Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital, Subramani of Royapuram was admitted in the hospital on March 17. On March 19, he was declared brain dead by doctors.
Fisherman’s Kin Let Loose Violence
Cuddalore: When a fisherman from Cuddalore died in a hospital, his relatives staged a road-roko, pelted buses with stones and damaged houses on Sunday. A few days ago, Pradeep, Santhosh and Kannan went for fishing in Nagapattinam, while some others accompanied the three. While fishing, there was a fight between them. Pradeep, Santhosh and Kannan were hospitalised. Pradeep died on Saturday. His relatives blocked a road, seeking police action against the assailants.
POCSO Act Slapped on Tainted HM
Dharmapuri: A suspended headmaster was arrested under POCSO Act on Sunday. According to the All Women Police at Dharmapuri, Chandrasekaran (54) headmaster of a Panchayat Union Primary School in Mukkulam near Karimangalam was suspended by Elementary Education Officer Muniraj on Friday, following a complaint of sexual abuse in the school. On Saturday, Karimangalam Assistant Education Officer Palaniammal lodged a complaint and the headmaster was arrested.
Satellite Launch by April-end
Tirunelveli: The ingeniously developed Indian Region Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) 1g satellite will be launched by the end of April, said K Sivan, Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, on Sunday. Speaking to reporters here, Sivan said the IRNSS 1g is the seventh and the final in the series of IRNSS satellites. When the satellite is launched, India will become independent of other navigation systems including the Global Positioning System of the US.
