COIMBATORE/CHENNAI:The Pollachi Mahalingapuram police have registered a case against 22 Facebook users, including a DMK municipal councillor, on the charge of posting derogatory comments against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

Those booked have not been arrested. “The accused persons are absconding,” said police. The case was registered based on a complaint from Municipal Chairman V Krishnakumar, who is also the AIADMK’s Pollachi Town secretary. The councillor who was booked – Navaneethakrishnan of the DMK – represents Ward 8 of the municipality.  He is also the DMK youth wing district secretary. The 21 others shared the post.

Meanwhile, DMK treasurer MK Stalin flayed the Chennai city police for harassing his partymen and charging them with rumour mongering  over the health condition of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. He said the police were registering cases, blocking accounts in social networking sites and intimidating his partymen on the basis of the complaints lodged by the IT Wing of the AIADMK.
