Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi visits Assembly segment on request of local AINRC MLA

PUDUCHERRY: Amid criticism by ruling Congress against her field visits for 'not involving' local people's representatives, Lt Governor Kiran Bedi today inspected an assembly constituency on a request from opposition AINRC (All India N R Congress) MLA.

Bedi went around Thirubhuvanam (reserved) constituency on a request from B Kobiga, MLA that she do so and acquainted herself with details from the MLA about the overall poor amenities, a release from the Lt Governor's office said.

Kobiga, a first time MLA, had in her representation informed Bedi of the need to desilt the lake, shortage of basic amenities in a government school and transport facilities to link two villages to the town, among other matters.

The Lt Governor asked Kobiga, who accompanied her with other officials, to mobilise local people and form a committee of villagers to clean a lake, which the MLA wanted desilted.

Bedi also urged her to ensure that families lacking toilet facilities in their households but were beneficiaries of a scheme to construct the infrastructure, expedited construction of the facility.

On the MLA's complaint of 'irregularities' in allotment of tenements built by the Adi Dravidar Welfare Department, Bedi assured her that the Director of the Local Administration Department would conduct an enquiry and submit a report.

On the basis of the report action would be taken to rectify irregularities in the allocation, Bedi said.

Bedi also assured the MLA that shortcomings pertaining to lack of adequate number of teachers and amenities at a government school in Sanniyasikuppam ngs would be rectified soon.
