CHENNAI: Strongly condemning the footwear attack on Union Minister and senior BJP leader Pon Radhakrishnan, DMK working president MK Stalin on Friday urged the police to take stringent action against the culprits.
"No one in a civilised society can approve of such an attack. This is totally against the values upheld by Tamils," he said in a statement.
According to him the responsibility and duty to ensure such attacks do not recur rests with the Director General of Police (DGP) who heads the police force in the State.
Letter to PM
Meanwhile, Stalin shot off a letter to the Prime Minister seeking his personal intervention to ensure passage of the Women's Reservation Bill, which would facilitate adequate representation for women in parliament and state legislatures thereby affording them equal opportunity to avail the fruits of social justice and gender justice which are considered an indispensable instrument for women's political empowerment.
