TIRUNELVELI: Though the interlinking of Thamirabarani-Nambiyar-Karumeniyar would benefit thousands of farmers and quench the thirst of the people living in the drought-prone Sathankulam and Thisayanvilai areas, landowners who have extended their lands are still waiting for the promised compensation.

Many landowners who have given their lands to the government are in the dark about the compensation due to them even after several years. “I have not received the compensation for my 2.5 acre-land. We have written to the Chief Minister, the PWD and the district collector many times. But we have not received anything and we have not been told about the deadline for the compensation.

Also, we are not happy with the compensation amount that the government is offering,” said Joseph, a landowner.

At a recent meeting with various government officials, Tirunelveli Collector M Karunakaran had insisted that the PWD officials should immediately handover the compensation to the Special Tahsildars (Land Acquisition) so that they could distribute the same to the landowners.
