THOOTHUKUDI; Claiming that the expansion of Salem airport is vital for the region’s growth, DMDK leader Premalatha Vijaykanth said here on Sunday that showing opposition for all the projects would affect the overall development of the State. The DMDK leader was here to attend a party functionary’s wedding. Addressing the reporters, she said that the State government should hold a public hearing before implementing the Salem-Chennai eight-lane expressway.

She also doubted the integrity of the project. “It is being said that the contract for implementing the expressway project is acquired by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisami’s relatives. This has created an uproar among the public. They say that the lives of several lakhs of people are affected due to vested interests of some people,” Premalatha said.
