Two Tamil writers bag Sahitya Akademi awards

Kriungai Sethupathy won the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his poems named ‘Siragu Mulaitha Yaanai’,  while Suneel Krishnan won the Yuva Puraskar for his short stories name  Ambu Padukkai.

CHENNAI: Two writers from Tamil Nadu are among the list of winners of Sahitya Akademi awards for this year for authors who contributed to children’s literature and for young authors below the age of 35 years, under the Tamil language category.

Kriungai Sethupathy won the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his poems named ‘Siragu Mulaitha Yaanai’,  while Suneel Krishnan won the Yuva Puraskar for his short stories name  Ambu Padukkai.

Sahitya Akademi, India’s national academy of  letters, announced a list of 23 winners for the Bal Sahitya Puraskar and  21 recipients for the Yuva Puraskar on Friday. According to a  news agency report, the Bal Puraskar will be conferred on the winners, with a prize of `50,000, on Children’s Day. The day for Yuva  Puraskar is yet to be decided.

The awards were recommended by  jury members representing 22 Indian languages and approved by the executive board of Sahitya Akademi which met today under the presidentship of  Chandrashekhar Kambar, said K Sreenivasarao, secretary, in a statement issued by the Akademi.
