CHENNAI: Amidst rumours regarding his elevation to the post of deputy chief minister, DMK’s youth wing secretary and Minister for Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin on Saturday said that the decision lies with Chief Minister MK Stalin.
The minister said this during a brief interaction with media persons after attending a meeting of the youth wing on its 45th anniversary and launching dedicated websites for its revenue district level units.
At the event, a resolution was adopted by the functionaries for Udhayanidhi’s elevation as deputy CM. Indicating that it was done without his knowledge, Udhayanidhi remarked in jest that the functionaries seemed to have acted in a bid to reserve a position (for themselves) after seeing rumours doing the rounds in the media.
He reiterated that all DMK ministers are already the CM’s deputies.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the youth wing, saying it holds a special place in his heart. “I will remain dedicated to it regardless of any future positions that I may get,” he said.
Udhayanidhi urged the functionaries to focus more on social media since it has become as important as being on the ground, especially to combat the “lies and propaganda” of the BJP. The minister added that the people of Tamil Nadu will never accept the BJP. This became evident when the party failed to win at least one seat, despite the prime minister visiting the state six times, he said.
He also urged the youth wing members to spread the history and ideology of the Dravidian movement and to identify at least 100 skilled orators by conducting statewide elocution contests.
Recalling the youth wing’s role in electoral victories of the DMK in the past, he said that their next goal should be to ensure the continuation of the DMK government in the coming election, regardless of the alliances formed by the opposition.
Meanwhile, Stalin extended his wishes to the functionaries and Udhayanidhi on the occasion of the youth wing’s 45th anniversary.
