CHENNAI: TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai on Saturday appealed Tiruvallur MP Sasikanth Senthil to withdraw his indefinite hunger strike against the union government for withholding SSA funds to the state.

Speaking to reporters at Sathyamurthy Bhavan, Selvaperunthagai said Senthil’s protest during the time of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s nationwide campaign against electoral malpractice may inadvertently divert the attention from Rahul’s people’s movement. “Hence, I urge him to temporarily call off the protest,” Selvaperunthagai said.

Taking a swipe at the union government, the Congress state chief said the recent 50% tariff imposed by the US on Indian imports reflects the failure of India’s foreign policy. “This is a clear indication of the collapse of the government’s foreign policy,” he charged.
