COIMBATORE: All Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies (PACCS) in the district have created a new state-level record by disbursing over Rs 8 crore in loans each.

According to the Office of the Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, 137 PACCS are functioning in the district, including 77 in the Pollachi region. Until March 2024, about 47 societies were disbursing a lower amount of loans, with some providing less than Rs 3 crore.

To improve performance, the cooperative department implemented several special initiatives during the last financial year, like organising special camps for members, direct doorstep visits to collect loan applications from farmers, and intensified efforts to mobilise fresh deposits.

As a result, by March 2025, every society had disbursed loans exceeding Rs 6 crore. For the financial year 2025-26, a higher target of Rs 8 crore per society was set. Through sustained and intensive efforts, all 137 societies have crossed the Rs 8 crore mark by the end of March 2026.

Coimbatore has become the first district in the state where every PACCS has achieved this milestone. The societies in the district recorded an impressive 56% growth in loan disbursement over the last two financial years. Additionally, they have mobilised Rs 1,200 crore in public deposits, creating a historic record. This achievement is expected to significantly benefit thousands of farmers in the region by ensuring better access to timely credit.
