CHENNAI: Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin on Friday dared Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay to open the files on his table if he had proof of corruption in the previous DMK government. “Will you release them only if an astrologer says so? We are not worried,” Udhayanidhi said in the Assembly. “If there is evidence, take action. We are not afraid of empty threats and intimidation,” he said.

Responding to this, Minister Aadhav Arjuna said action will be taken according to law. Minister N Anand sought the deletion of the word “astrologer” from Assembly records, to which Udhayanidhi responded, “Astrologer is not a wrong word.

You are the ones who gave a government post to an astrologer and then removed him.” Minister Nirmal Kumar, referring to former Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, said, “Tamil Nadu has already seen a person who wore a yellow shawl after consulting astrologer.”

On the live telecast of proceedings, Udhayanidhi clarified that he was not opposed to it, but questioned the circulation of expunged portions on social media. “We are not opposing the live telecast. The deleted portions are going on social media. What action are you going to take to prevent that?” he asked.

Responding to this, Speaker JCD Prabhakar said remarks made without evidence would be expunged.
