1 Dies after Consuming Illicit Toddy

NIZAMABAD: One person died and 26 others fell ill after they consumed adulterated toddy in Nizamabad district on Friday. The condition of three of them is said to be serious.

The incident took place in Sangem village of Bhirkoor mandal. According to officials, several persons from nearby villages of Sangem came to the house of one Perumallu on Thursday to take part in marriage arrangements. In the evening, Perumallu, his relatives and villagers consumed toddy. On Friday morning, they started vomiting and complianed of stomach pain. All of them were taken to Banswada area hospital.

P Mothiram (60) died. Three persons who are critical  have been shifted to the district headquarters hospital, Nizamabad. Officials said 15 persons have been admitted to the Banswada government hospital. Medical officials organised a health camp in Sangem. Police have registered a case.
