HYDERABAD: The stage is set for byelection in Medak Lok Sabha segment in Telangana and Nandigama Assembly segment in Andhra Pradesh to be held on Saturday. Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of the polling.
The bypoll to Medak Lok Sabha constituency in Telangana was necessitated by the resignation of TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao after he became the chief minister. Nandigama byelection was necessitated following the death of newly-elected MLA Tangirala Prabhakar Rao.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, CEO of both AP and TS, Bhanwar Lal said that the polling would be conducted from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. There are 14 candidates in fray for Medak seat and four candidates for Nandigama (SC) seat.The voters can show any 11 types of identification proofs accepted by the Election Commission, in case they did not have the Voter ID card. However, Bhanwar Lal said that they have already distributed voter slips to 95 per cent of voters in these two segments. A total number of 15,43,700 electors would exercise their franchise at 1,817 polling stations in the Lok Sabha seat. Ever since the election schedule was announced, the authorities have seized Rs 75.24 lakh unaccounted cash and 4,549 litres of liquor in Medak. Bhanwar Lal said that they were erecting checkposts on Karnataka-Telangana border to prevent entry of illicit liquor from Karnataka.
Apart from 4,213 state police force, 17 companies of Central Police Force were deployed in Medak.
