Relative Son Rise in Congress Youth Wing

Express News Service

HYDERABAD: The son of a former minister and a former MLA are in the fray for the post of president of Telangana Youth Congress. The students’ wing and youth wing are considered as a stepping stone to the Congress party.

Kalwakurthy MLA Ch Vamsichand Reddy is presently leading the State Youth Congress. For the first time after separate PCCs were announced for Telangana and divided AP, elections are being held to the Youth Congress in Telangana.

The process of electing district and Assembly level presidents of Youth Congress has been completed and the stage has been set for elections to the Parliament level and State chief of the Youth Congress.

The elections will be held on September 9 and 10. Youth Congress members elected at district and assembly will elect these presidents and the results will be out on September 12.

Also in the fray is Anil Kumar Yadav, son of former MP from Secunderabad, Anjan Kumar Yadav, who is contesting against B Ravi Kumar Yadav, son of former MLA from Serilingampally Bikshapathi Yadav.

Ravi Kumar Yadav reportedly has the support of existing Youth Congress body while Anil Kumar Yadav is banking on the stranglehold his father has on the city Congress.

The situation is similar at Parliament-level Youth Congress elections too, sources said. For the Zaheerabad parliamentary president post, Meghana Reddy, the daughter of former minister J Geetha Reddy is contesting. For Medak MP YC post, Santosh Reddy, a close relative of Sunitha Laxma Reddy is in the fray.

In Khammam MP segment, Charan Reddy, son of former minister R Venkat Reddy is contesting, sources said.

This rise of sons and relatives of senior leaders, however, is not being taken kindly by leaders. “It is like encouraging dynasty politics. Youth, who do not have any family backing should also be promoted,’’ one leader said, requesting anonymity.
