HYDERABAD: The Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) directed the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states to share power generated at Srisailam reservoir as per the prescribed ratio.
Following a complaint by Telangana government that AP was not sharing power generated at Srisailam with Telangana, the KRMB recently issued this directive.
The KRMB approved release of 5,000 cusecs of water from Srisailam to Nagarjuna Sagar Project for drinking water needs of both the states. KRMB wants to release this
5,000 cusecs of water through power generation.
However, Telangana government contended that AP was not sharing power with it and lodged a complaint with the KRMB.
In a recent directive to both the states, the KRMB stated: “In continuation to the letter on September 14, wherein it was agreed upon to release 5,000 cusecs of water from Srisailam reservoir to Nagarjuna Sagar Project to meet drinking water requirements of both the states. It was also proposed that the water so released should be through the power house to derive the power benefits.
The request from the government of Telangana regarding sharing of power between two states vide letter dated September 16 have been examined and it is directed that:
● The power should be optimally generated
● The power so generated out of the releases from Srisailam to NSP should be shared between two states in prescribed ratio as applicable,” the KRMB said in its communication to principal secretaries of irrigation of both the states.
