Godavari level reaches 52.4 ft in Bhadrachalam

BHADRACHALAM: The water level in Godavari river at Bhadrachalam in Khammam district reached 52.4 feet on Tuesday.

A second warning was issued on Monday.

With its tributaries Indravati, Penganga and Pranahita in full spate, the Godavari received good inflows on Tuesday too. The  water level of the river at Bhadrachalam, which was was 19.7 feet on Sunday, rose to 43 feet on Monday morning. The level rose further on Tuesday to reach 52.4 feet on Tuesday evening.

With heavy floods to the Godavari near Bhadrachalam, traffic in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states was affected. Flood waters overflowed on several roads in the two states causing severe hardships to  commuters.

Alubak, Pagallapalli and other areas have remained cut off from the rest of the villages in Dummugudem mandal and so have 24 villages in Vajedu mandal. The national highway from Telangana to Chhattisgarh too was flooded. As a result, vehicular traffic was stranded on both sides. Officials lifted 18 gates of the Taliperu barrage and released 14,000 cusecs of water. Roads and buildings minister Tummala Nageswara Rao reviewed the flood situation and asked the officials to be vigilant. He  said the government was ready to provide relief to flood-affected people in the seven mandals which had been in Khammam district in the past but were merged in AP after  bifurcation.
