HYDERABAD: Folk singer Madhu Priya of ‘Adapillanamma Nenu Aadapillanaani’ fame, who got married to her lover against her parent’s wishes in October 2015, lodged a complaint with the police on Saturday alleging physical and mental harassment by her husband for dowry.
Based on the complaint, Humayunagar police registered cases under various sections against her husband Srikanth.
Madhu Priya walked into the police station along with her parents and lodged a complaint that in October last year, she married Srikanth against her parent’s wishes. While she was happy for the first three months, Srikanth started harassing her physically and mentally for want of dowry.
Based on the complaint, police registered cases against Srikanth under sections 498 (A)among others. Tendering her apology to her parents for marrying against their wishes, Madhu Priya told the media that Srikanth used to harass her for transferring her ancestor’s properties in his name.
“For the last three months, Srikanth has been harassing me for dowry. He completely depends on me financially and hasn’t gone for work after marriage. Unable to bear his harassment, I decided to lodge a complaint,” Madhu Priya said.
Humayunagar inspector Ravinder said that they received a complaint from Madhu Priya and immediately registered cases. She alleged that she even received life threats from her husband.
Husband Denies Allegations
Hours after Madhu Priya lodged the complaint, Srikanth, who was interviewed by a TV channel, denied allegations framed against him. He said he never assaulted or harassed her. Srikanth added that Madhu Priya’s parents infact played a key role for creating a rift between him and his wife. “Police can hang me in public if investigation proves that I assaulted her,” he challenged.
Srikanth also stated that Madhu’s parents assaulted him and they approached Langer Houz police along with Madhu Priya a few days ago and lodged a complaint.
