SANGAREDDY: It is quite common that people have to wait for months together to get compensation for the land acquired by government.
Here is a case where the compensation is ready but the same is not being extended to victims.
A year ago, officials completed the process of land acquisition from Kandi village of the district for expansion of Shadnagar to Bangalore bypass road. But, the officials are allegedly showing negligence in paying the compensation to the land oustees.
About 60 villagers from Kandi, Kashipur and Julkal of Sangareddy mandal had lost their homes and land in road expansion works.
The compensation amount of `2.50 crore was also released and cheques on the names of the victims were also made ready. Howeverthey were not handed over to the oustees.
Some people from Kandi and Kashipur villages, who lost their land, said they had been running around the offices for payment of compensation, but officials are postponing the payment by saying it would be made in a day or two.
This has been going on for six months. One Ananthramulu Goud of Kandi village said a month ago, revenue officials came to their home and had collected their signatures on revenue stamps, promising payment in a week. But till now, no payment had been made, he alleged.
An official, on condition of anonymity, said though cheques are ready, they are awaiting for minister T Harish Rao to distribute the cheques. The land oustees, on the other hand, say that Harish Rao had passed along the Kandi highway five times earlier, and blamed officials for their apathy. “If officials really wanted to expedite the process, they can do it easily, as getting the time of Harish Rao is not a big problem,” they alleged.
The oustees also alleged the compensation amount is paltry, and insufficient for purchasing a plot and constructing a house.
Ananthramulu Goud said the government is providing a job, plot and compensation for the people who lost their land for the construction of irrigation projects. “We also want the same,” he said.
Asked about the delay, Sangareddy tahsildar Govardhan said the cheques are ready. “We are waiting for the MLA and minister Harish Rao,” he said.
