HYDERABAD: In yet another alleged case of honour killing in the hinterland of Hyderabad, a mother in collaboration with her two sons killed her daughter for becoming pregnant before marriage.
The trio forced the teenaged girl to drink pesticide and buried her body in their farm, police said. The killing took place two days ago in the village of Velugu Ralla tanda in Kadtal mandal of Rangareddy district, which envelops the state capital of Hyderabad. The incident came to light today.
According to the police, Sabhavat Manjula (19) fell in love with a man and became pregnant. Manjula's mother Soni came to know of it and demanded to know the name of the man. But the girl didn’t disclose her lover’s identity.
After repeated questioning, Soni and her two sons Bablu and Jagan allegedly thrashed Manjula two days ago (Wednesday) and then forced her to drink pesticide, which killed her.
Manjula’s absence was noticed by villagers who questioned Soni about her whereabouts. Word spread, and the village revenue officer alerted the police, sensing foul play.
Confronted by the police, Soni first told them Manjula had ended her life by consuming poison and that her body was buried in the fields. Upon further questioning, she confessed to have killed her daughter herself.
Police exhumed the body and conducted an autopsy at the spot.
