Folk singer Goreti bags Kaloji Award

HYDERABAD: ‘People’s  poet’ Goreti Venkanna has been selected by the state government for the prestigious Sri Kaloji Narayana Rao Award-2016.

An announcement to this effect was made by the department of tourism and culture on Friday. The award will carry a cash prize of ` 1,01,116.

Goreti Venkanna is a popular poet and folk singer. Palle Kanneeru Peduthundo, a song penned by him for Telugu movie, Kubusam, brought him laurels. Venkanna penned several songs for films and wrote several books including Eku Naadam Motha, Rela Poothalu and Alasandra Vanka. The 53-year-old poet actively participated in the movement for separate T-statehood.
