HYDERABAD: While refusing to grant stay on the decision of the Telangana government to reorganise the districts in the state, the Hyderabad High Court on Thursday made it clear that any further action of the state government with regard to formation of new districts in the state would be subject to final outcome of the petitions pending before it.
Justice A Rajasheker Reddy was dealing with a petition by G Padmavathi, chairperson of Gadwal municipality, and others challenging GO 366 and Form-I notification to proceed with formation of Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool and Wanaparthy districts.
The petitioners’ counsel told the court that Gadwal area is bigger than Mahbubnagar with 1.50 lakh population and there was a long pending demand of the area people that Gadwal should be made as a district. There was more than 200 acres of government land available in the area to establish the government offices and a railway line was also in existence since last 100 years, they added.
They contended that the statutory Rule 4(1) of the Telangana Districts (Formation) Rules, 1984 mandates the government to display the preliminary notification in grama chavidis and the office of Gram Panchayats.While adjourning the case to after Dasara vacation, the judge directed the government counsel to file counter affidavit in the matter.
