HYDERABAD: A former security guard at an engineering college has been arrested for harassing as many as 15 girl students living in the college’s hostel at LB Nagar with anonymous abusive messages from anonymous numbers for over a year. Despite the prolonged harassment, the girl students were worried about complaining and they blocked the anonymous number. But the messages continued from other numbers.

It was only after a girl, who is a representative of Rachakonda police’ ‘She for Her’ came across the matter through other inmates of the hostel that the issue was brought to police and the accused, Ramavatar Yadav from Bihar, was arrested.

“None of the girls tried to lodge a complaint or find a solution. Girls went into fear and blocked the number on their phone but they received messages from some other number. One of the girls who was selected as a representative as part of ‘She for Her’ programme, was from the girls’ hostel.

She took up the issue with She teams, following which a case was registered under sections 354 (D) and 507 of IPC for probe and the accused was nabbed,” Rachakonda police commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat.
