NALGONDA: After betting on IPL matches, punters are learned to be testing their luck on kabaddi matches being played as part of Pro Kabbadi League (PKL) to earn easy money. In a suspected case of losing money on betting on Kabaddi matches, two close friends ended their lives by jumping before a running training near Miryalaguda railway station in Nalgonda district in the wee hours of Sunday.
Charan and Nagaraju, both aged 20, hailed from Babusaipet village in Tripuraram mandal. Charan used to work as a bike mechanic and Nagaraju ran a mobile phone shop in Miryalaguda town. Friends since childhood, the duo used to go to Miryalguda every day on a bike. On Saturday, they left home and did not return till night after which their parents reported the matter to the police. The bodies of the duo were found on the railway track near Miryalaguda railway station in the wee hours of Sunday.
Though the parents of the deceased told police that the youngsters did not have any financial or family related problems, villages and friends told the police that the youngsters have put a lot of money in betting on IPL cricket and Pro Kabaddi in the past few months and lost huge amounts. ‘‘They were unable to repay the loans taken from moneylenders. Afraid of facing the lenders, they might have committed suicide,’’ an investigating officer said. A case was registered are further probe is on.
