HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court on Monday admitted the appeal filed by the five convicts of the Dilsukhnagar bomb blast case and it would hear it along with the reference proceedings of the Special National Investigation Agency (NIA) Court for confirmation of the death sentence awarded against the said convicts.

Amitting the matter, the bench comprising Justice C V Nagarjuna Reddy and Justice M S K Jaiswal said that it will hear the appeal along with the case records and the file referred by the NIA Court for confirmation of the death sentence.

On Dec 13 last year, the NIA Court while terming the crime as 'rarest of rare'  convicted the five operatives of Indian Mujahideen for their involvement in two consecutive bomb explosions that took place at Dilsukhnagar area of the city in the year 2013.

On Dec 19, the special court imposed death sentence against the convicts - Yasin Bhatkal, Asadullah Akhtar, Zia Ur Rahman, Mohammed Tahseen and Aizaz Saeed Shaik - who were found guilty of carrying out the blasts that killed 18 persons and injuries to 131 people.

Aggrieved with the order of the lower court, they approached the High Court contending that the prosecution has failed, and that they were convicted based on the grounds of 'failure' of prosecution that they were members of Indian Mujahideen.

Meanwhile, NIA Judge T Srinivasa Rao referred the matter to the High Court for confirmation of the death sentence imposed against the said convicts.
