HYDERABAD: Maoists allegedly killed a tribal in Maoist-hit Cherla mandal of Bhadradri Kothagudem district in Telangana in the wee hours of Sunday, after branding him as a police informer.
According to police, nearly five armed Maoists came to the house of the deceased, Sode Prasad (53), who resides in Pedamiseleru village in Cherla mandal, around 2 am and asked him to accompany them on the pretext of "discussions”. P
rasad's family members asked the armed men to come in the morning time and hold discussions in the presence of other villagers but the suspected Maoists forcibly took away Prasad. After taking Prasad, they shot him in the head. Prasad died on the spot.
The Maoists also reportedly left behind a note warning another person from the village to stop acting as a “police informer”.
According to sources, the Maoists have been warning Prasad since sometime over not to act as a police informer but as Prasad did not mend his ways, they shot him down.
Meanwhile, police sources said that there has been increased Maoist activity in Telangana, particularly the Bhadrachalam agency area bordering Chhattisgarh state. Police, however, added there was no fresh recruitment from Telangana side but Maoist cadre from the neighbouring state area are entering this side and resorting to the planting of landmines and pressure bombs in Bhupalpally and Bhadrachalam agency areas.
