NIZAMABAD: Nizamabad, the third largest town in the State, is growing by leaps and bounds. But, amid all this developmental hullabaloo, the city had lagged behind in providing lung space for its citizens. This was when the previous Nizamabad district collector Ronald Rose stepped in and thus came into being the Smurthivanam (Telangana Martyrs Memorial Park) in over one acre area under Vinayaknagar limits.

It was not long back when the city had just one proper park — Thilak Garden — and even this was accessible from only few areas. In this regard, development of the Telangana Martyrs Memorial Park was taken up under the stewardship of Ronald Rose. Coming up in a sprawling one acre area, the park had all the amenities including separate walking track, children’s play area, and special sitting arrangements for visitors.

“While it was developed in just 13 days, the park is now providing the city the much needed lung space and giving citizens a green space of their own. People come here in the evening with friends or family,” a municipal engineer told Express. Nizamabad Municipal Corporation (NMC) engineering department meanwhile claim that by the end of the year, several other parks will come up in the city.

In this regard, Nizamabad urban MLA B Ganesh Gupta had directed NMC to develop 27 parks at several locations in the city. The parks, to be developed in an area of one acre to seven acre, will cost around `50 lakh to `1.50 crore. Under special funds, `7 crore was allocated for development of parks.
