BHADRACHALAM: Security has been beefed up at Telangana-Chhattisgarh border and in agency, areas keeping in view Maoist party’s ‘Martyrs’ Week Celebration’ from July 28 to August 3. As the Maoists have been threatening TRS leaders through wall posters, special party and CRPF forces have been deployed in the border areas and combing operations have been intensified.
Security forces have sealed the border and are not allowing any person into Telangana from Chhattishgarh forest area without identification proofs.
Intelligence department warned the police that Maoists may avenge the death of Arun, district committee member for Maoists, who was killed by the forces at Kurnavalli village forest in Cherla mandal on July 24. Cherla police also arrested one Maoist party militia member Rame in Cherla mandal on 25 July.
Taking intelligence department’s inputs very seriously, the police officials have intensified combing operation and alerted former Maoists, ruling party leaders and police officials. Bhadrachalam assistant superintendent of police Sangram Singh Patil said ‘’We have taken all precautions and are ready to face any untoward incidents. We have shifted probable targets to safer places and also warned the police staff that they should not move alone.”
Area domination, vehicle checking and combing operation are going on in the agency area and border places. He added that security has been beefed up at all government offices and police stations in the border areas.
On the other side, the Maoists have appealed to the people of the Bhadrachalam division to make Martyrs’ Week Celebration a success.
According to some local tribals, Maoists have been visiting villages for the last one week and appealing to them to participate in the celebrations. However, the situation in the border area is similar to one before a war and tribals, living in the grip of fear, are not coming out after 5 pm every day.
