HYDERABAD: Like a scene straight out of a movie, minutes before entering into a wedlock at Arya Samaj, a groom was thrashed and the bride was picked up by her family members, leaving the passersby stunned. Pradeep from Renjal mandal in the Nizamabad district and Soujanya from Peddapalli district have been in love for the last four years.

The couple, waited for Soujanya to turn 18 to get married. They decided to tie the knot at Arya Samaj in Nizamabad city on Wednesday. Just five minutes later, they would be leading a life they dreamed to live together, had they been allowed to get married. However, their dream came crashing, when the girls family members arrived at the venue, on several bikes and gheraoed the officials and the couple as well.

They demanded the officials at the Arya Samaj to stop performing the wedding, but they said they could not and requested them to resolve the matter outside the premises. The family members tried to carry the bride away. When Pradeep came to her rescue, he was thrashed black and blue by the bride’s family.
Pradeep failed to rescue her, when the family members went on to slap the bride, lifted her on their shoulders and left.

The girl was seen weeping and breaking down, calling out the groom’s name and pleading  with the passersby for help. Pradeep tried to reach out to the police, but they did not arrive on time. Pradeep then reached the two-town police station and settled there, asking the police to help him. He asked them to get her so that they can be married.
