HYDERABAD: The government has directed all its offices to migrate their internet connectivity from private service providers to the state-owned T-Fiber network by September 1, a move that will bring over 45,000 government institutions under a unified and secure digital communication infrastructure. The move is expected to help the state save Rs 300-Rs 400 crore per year.
The migration will cover the state Secretariat, more than 1,500 Rythu Bharosa Centres, nearly 1,000 government schools, police establishments and thousands of other government offices. Officials said the shift will standardise connectivity across departments while strengthening cybersecurity and improving the delivery of digital governance services.
The decision was taken at a review meeting chaired by IT and Industries Minister D Sridhar Babu at the Secretariat. Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju, Joint Secretary Anudeep Durishetty and T-Fiber Managing Director Venu Prasad Panneru attended the meeting, where officials reviewed the progress of the state’s optical fibre network and its expansion roadmap.
Sridhar affirmed that switching to T-Fiber would help the state save anywhere between Rs 300 crore and Rs 400 crore annually. He said the government-owned network would also enhance cybersecurity by providing secure intranet connectivity integrated with the State Data Centre.
According to the minister, 4,487 government offices have already been connected to the T-Fiber network over the past six months, resulting in savings of nearly `13 crore for the state exchequer. He also directed officials to complete the migration of the Telangana State Wide Area Network (T-SWAN) to T-Fiber within a month.
Officials said the upgraded network would offer higher bandwidth, direct connectivity to the State Data Centre and improved network reliability, supporting digital governance platforms such as e-Office, cloud-based applications, artificial intelligence services and online citizen services.
The minister also instructed T-Fiber to provide end-to-end digital connectivity for the proposed Bharat Future City project. He directed officials to accelerate broadband rollout to households across Telangana and initiate the tendering process for appointing a Principal Monetisation Partner to support the network’s expansion.
T-Fiber has laid over 43,000 km of underground optical fibre across Telangana and is currently service-ready in nearly 9,000 villages. The network is planned to eventually cover all 12,751 villages and around 90 lakh rural households under the “Internet to Every Home” initiative, enabling access to digital education, telemedicine, e-governance services, digital payments and other online services.
The state had earlier issued GO No 9 on December 8, 2024, making T-Fiber the primary internet service provider for all government departments and institutions. Officials said the initiative would serve as the digital backbone for Telangana’s expanding technology ecosystem and future AI-enabled governance initiatives.
