WARANGAL: Warangal Commissioner of Police (CP) N Swetha said the police are working systematically to eradicate narcotics, regulate traffic and prevent crime in the commissionerate limits.
Speaking to TNIE on Sunday, Swetha said the expanding tri-city region of Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet required heightened vigilance. “We are taking every small crime seriously as it will help prevent bigger offences,” she said.
She stressed the need for public cooperation in combating narcotics and maintaining traffic discipline. “Police cannot achieve these goals without the cooperation of citizens,” she said.
Swetha said surveillance would play a key role in crime prevention and investigation. During his recent three-day tour of the district, DGP CV Anand advised the police to install a large number of CCTV cameras to bring more areas under surveillance.
She urged parents not to allow minors to drive and to remain attentive to their children’s behaviour. Their involvement was also crucial in preventing youngsters from falling prey to narcotics, she said.
Expressing concern over misinformation on social media, Swetha said baseless reports and rumours were causing fear and anxiety among families, particularly the middle class. She urged people to verify information with the concerned authorities before sharing or publishing it.
Meanwhile, the commissioner has launched a special drive to curb road accidents at identified black spots across the Warangal Police Commissionerate.
As part of the initiative, Swetha, along with officials from the police, National Highways Authority of India, Road Transport and Excise departments, inspected more than 10 accident-prone locations along National Highway-163 between Warangal and Hyderabad.
She directed officials to install additional warning boards and other road-safety measures at the identified locations.
