HYDERABAD: The main Opposition BRS on Wednesday urged Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla to advise the Assembly Speaker and Council Chairman to place the suspension of two BRS MLCs, T Madhu and N Naveen, before the House for reconsideration in the light of the Ashish Shelar and Sunil Kumar Singh cases in Maharashtra and Bihar, and provide the MLCs an opportunity to be heard.
A delegation led by BRS working president KT Rama Rao met the Governor here and submitted a 13-page letter containing 45 points, alleging severe erosion of constitutional governance and the rule of law in the state. The BRS sought the Governor’s intervention on several issues.
The BRS urged the Governor to immediately seek reports from the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police on the events of September 7 and 8, including the authority under which entry to the Legislature was restricted, any written order issued by the Speaker, the identity and authority of, and officer responsible for deploying, every person in civilian clothes present at Gate No 3 on the morning and evening of September 7, and the action taken in compliance with the Telangana High Court’s direction to identify and proceed against erring officials.
It also sought directions for the immediate preservation and impounding of all CCTV and other electronic footage from the Legislature precincts, Public Garden, surrounding junctions and police vehicles for the morning and evening of September 7, and their production before the high court on September 21.
BRS team demands FIR against cops for ‘assault’ on legislators
The BRS also urged the Governor to direct registration of an FIR against police officers, marshals and others responsible for allegedly assaulting legislators, including women members, as required by the high court’s directions, and for the injuries sustained to be recorded.
The BRS also sought a report on the failure to register a case over public remarks wishing for the death of former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, and over the alleged police escort provided to those who proceeded towards his residence at Erravalli and attacked it as part of a conspiracy to eliminate him.
“Direct that adequate and immediate security be provided for the person and residence of former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao at Erravalli, and call for a report upon the threat attributed to KCR,” the BRS representation stated.
Rama Rao told reporters later that they had also apprised the Governor of the failures of the Congress government in its 1,000 days in office. The delegation explained the problems faced by farmers, unemployed youth and others, he said.
