Priya Bhavani Shankar, who rose to fame with the popular soap, Kalyanam Mudhal Kadhal Varai, a remake of Ye Hai Mohabbatein, will make her Kollywood debut with an urban romantic comedy.

She tells CE, “I am not revealing anything about the film because I have been instructed not to talk about it. I am debuting as an actress, and the team will make an official announcement post June 20. We have completed the shooting and I just have a couple of days left. The film is set in Chennai.”

Priya never considered doing films when she was a news reader and the anchor of TV shows. “I quit television because I needed a break. There’s so much love on social media for me, and I realised that the audience missed seeing me on screen. I knew nothing about acting, but got a lot of encouragement. I agreed to do this film because I liked the script and was able to immediately connect with the character.”
The actress says she’ll continue doing films if this film gets a positive response from the audience.
