As it happens every year at Delhi’s much-awaited annual Valentine’s Day party, thrown by Bhaichand Patel, at his Sujan Singh Park residence, guests mingled, chatted, swilled bourbon, whisky and vodka, in the large garden, warmed by gas heaters.

The party was attended by an eclectic collection of guests, including diplomats, socialites, writers, painters and dancers. As people warmed themselves by the fireplace in the sitting room, the  band outside played numbers from the Sixties and Seventies. It filled up the dance floor inside, as guests shook a leg to keep the cold away.
