There are close to 26 artists participating in the exhibition titled, She, at Art Konsult, on the occasion of Mother’s Day. The sheer range of visual emotions, thoughts and manifestations of desires, felt and experienced by each of these artists have been poured on to the canvas in an attempt to remind us of the undying emotional strength and tolerance mothers are best known for. These are some of the characteristics that the owner of the gallery, Sidarth Tagore, upholds in every woman. Tagore says he wanted to share his perspective on the subject through art and that’s why the exhibition for his audience. ‘‘The central theme of these works is woman; her turmoils, strengths, feelings and emotions. Each artist has attempted to depict women in their own unique artistic language,” says Tagore, who personally connected the most with artist Nabanita Guha’s Search for Identity. “It puts an ordinary woman on the centre stage, portrayed in the way a Goddess is in popular calender art (that reaches almost every household in India). It asserts that each woman is divine and deserves respect, and recognition. That idea, for me, is sacrosanct,” he says.
